WFP Food Assistance Project in the Districts of Goundam and Niafunke Timbuktu region

The project  accepted to work with WFP to alleviate food shortage caused by the conflict in the north. Given the current political and security crisis in Mali with tremendous food consequences on vulnerable households in the north of the country,  WFP is providing  food and nutrition assistance through its EMOP (Emergency operation program). As WFP partner,  the project  is taking part in the implementation of the Emergency operations  in  Goundam ,  in  the Timbuktu region. The project  intervention targeted 7 communes out of the 16 communes of the Goundam circle.

The programs aims to provide food assistance to  more than 25,000  vulnerable persons consisting of internal displaced persons, vulnerable households and children aged 6 -59 months, pregnant and lactating women. The program focused on two components including General food distribution and blanket feeding.

Goal: Provide food assistance to vulnerable populations affected by the crisis

Objectives:

  1. Improve food access to households affected by the food and nutrition crisis.
  2. Reduce malnutrition among children aged 6 to 23 months and pregnant and lactating women

Project Achievements 

  • 23,981 vulnerable persons assisted through Food General distribution
  • 12,350 Internal Displaced Persons  assisted in General distribution,
  • 6163 children aged 6-23 months and 3020 pregnant and  lactating women  in blanket feeding.
  • 7 districts covered during the project implementation period.
