“The World is on its Knees”: We-Empower’s Innovative COVID-19 Insights
The new, post-pandemic era ushers in a time of uncertainty, amplified violence, increased mortality, and decreased access to basic human needs. According to the World Food Programme, the amount of food insecure individuals will double from 135 million to 265 million following COVID-19.
These consequences are especially prevalent in Africa, the Middle East, and South America among youth and women. Inevitably, we are entering into an era of underpredicted consequences, most notably mass food insecurity.
The offshoots of food insecurity are profoundly terrifying. The virus is not our only threat. We are currently witnessing…
- Threats to women including increased gender inequality, maternal mortality, and gender-based violence
- Exponential poverty rates
- Increased human rights violations
- Malnutrition, especially child stunting and breastfeeding complications
One Health: The Approach that Holds the Key to COVID-19 Mitigation
Since its first operations in 2016, We-Empower has cultivated an aura of expertise on One Health and its benefits. We-Empower believes that now, more than ever, it is imperative to turn to the One Health approach in order to mitigate this crisis and achieve a more stable, healthy world. Vertical health management, virtual mentorship, and leadership are key to minimizing the fallouts of this crisis.
The One Health approach recognizes that human health, animal health, and environmental health are all connected. Solutions that address global health problems, such as COVID-19, thus need to take an integrated, transdisciplinary approach if real, lasting progress is to be achieved. Through this approach, we have been able to build economic resilience within our partner countries.
We-Empower’s President and CEO, Noubia Gribi-Hussain, recognizes the perilous situation the world has been wedged into. When asked her opinion about the predicament, she proclaimed, “The world is on its knees. However, as the world continues to face challenges, together working side by side, we will adjust, rise and continue empowering those lives we serve.”
We-Empower’s Virtual Mentorships and Operations during COVID-19
We-Empower is dedicated to social distancing and working remotely at this time. Although we pride ourselves on our fieldwork, our experts in virtual mentorship are working tirelessly to provide exceptional assistance.
We anticipate that this additional experience in virtual operations will bolster our multidimensional approach to easily and effectively help countries achieve a higher rate of food security.
